Texas Tech University's Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Principal Professional Certification Preparation Programme is designed for working teachers interested in pursuing careers as elementary or secondary school principals in Texas.
Educational Leadership Masters
The Educational Leadership program faculty are involved in a number of ongoing “university - K-12 school partnership” activities to directly serve the leadership development of regional K-12 educators, including EDLD Summer Leadership Institute; and the new LISD - TTU Principal Fellows Programme.
Attention New Educational Leadership Master's Applicants: The new TExES Principal 268 test will contain both multiple-choice and constructed-response items and become operational December 2018. Candidates will also be required to successfully complete the Performance Assessment for School Leaders (PASL) in 2019. In preparation for the new TExES Principal Assessment rollout, the Educational Leadership program will not be accepting applications for the Spring 2018 semester.
Accepted applicants will begin either SUMMER 2018 or FALL 2018.
Master's of Education in Educational Leadership and Principal Professional Certification Preparation Programme
Blended Delivery: Online Coursework Including Blackboard Collaborate, EDLD Faculty may require you to travel to regional sites (i.e., Lubbock, Marble Falls, Fredericksburg) for cohort meetings or as part of internship requirements.
Teacher Leadership Certificate
The Educational Leadership (EDLD) Programme offers graduate degrees and administrator certification preparation programs to prepare individuals to serve in a variety of administrative leadership positions in K-12 schools and school districts. The Educational Leadership Doctoral Programme prepares individuals for executive leadership positions in K-12 school districts and for teaching positions in university settings.
- 36 credit hours
- Coursework is completed using a variety of instructional methods. Attendance is required all-day one Saturday per month at one of Texas Tech University's regional sites - TTU at Fredericksburg, TTU at Highland Lakes or TTU Center at Junction. The rest of the coursework can be completed online.
- Cohort students follow a predetermined schedule of courses. Course rotation varies by cohort. New cohorts begin each semester.
- Semester-based courses align with the Academic Calendar of Texas Tech University.
Although there is no application deadline, potential students are encouraged to submit all application materials at least two months prior to projected initial enrollment.
1. Apply to Texas Tech University's Graduate School as a master's student. When asked to select a major, be sure to choose the degree entry that corresponds to your area of interest, followed by the word online.
- Complete the Graduate Admissions Application.
- $60 initial application fee or $50 for each subsequent application (including changes of entry date, add/change program requests, or readmission requests).
- Applicants must have unofficial transcripts from all colleges and universities previously attended sent to Texas Tech University Graduate School at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are admitted, you will then be required to submit official transcripts.
- Students planning to pursue a master's degree are strongly encouraged to submit Graduate Records Exam (GRE) scores to the Graduate School, but GRE scores are not required for the application.
- The admissions process is viewed holistically by the College of Education and the Graduate School, so there is no stated minimum GRE or GPA requirement.
- All international applicants must provide proof of English proficiency before their applications can be considered for admission. A list of acceptable exams can be found on the Graduate School International Prospective Student webpage. This test is waived only for graduates of U.S. universities or universities in English proficiency-exempt countries. Applicants who have completed at least two consecutive years at a college or university in the U.S. or in an English proficiency-exempt country are also exempt from the English proficiency requirement.

3. Apply for financial aid and/or scholarships and College of Education Graduate Scholarships.
- Financial aid is distributed based on full-time enrollment and several other eligibility requirements. Your enrolled hours as of the 12th day of class in the fall and spring semesters determines your enrollment status for the semester, and financial aid is disbursed accordingly. Attending less than full-time could mean a reduction in aid.
4. Upon your acceptance into the Graduate School and the College of Education, you will work with a faculty advisor to develop a degree plan. If you receive notification of rejection, you may contact the Associate Dean of Graduate Education and Research for advisement regarding the admissions appeals process.

Interested in taking only one or two courses? Use Texas Tech University's Graduate Temporary Status to apply and take as many as 12 credit hours without completing the application process to a degree program.
The 36-hour Principal Professional Certification Preparation Programme is designed to prepare students interested in pursuing careers as elementary or secondary school principals in Texas.
The program utilizes study of factual knowledge and theory, as well as internship field experiences, to develop student knowledge and skills. The 36 credit hour Principal Professional Certification Programme includes the following courses:

Students must also complete Instructional Leadership Development (ILD) and Professional Development and Supervision (PDAS) training at a Texas Regional Education Service Center (equivalent to 3 semester credit hours).
Successful completion of the courses above satisfies the academic requirements for the school principalship in Texas.
The courses above include course requirements for professional school principal certification in Texas. Such certification also requires a satisfactory score on SBEC's TExES examination for school principals, a valid Texas teacher certificate, and two years of teaching experience. Students must also apply to the College of Education Certification Office.

Semester in which the program can be started
The M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and the Teacher Leadership Certificate program accept applicants on an ongoing basis. As such, applicants can be accepted to start either the M.Ed. in Educational Leadership or the Teacher Leadership Certificate during any semester (Fall, Spring, Summer I, or Summer II).
Applicants are required to hold teacher's certification and two years of teaching experience at the time of application.*
* Applicants who have one full year as a full-time, certified professional teacher (elementary or secondary) at the time of application will also be considered for admission if they can provide evidence that they will be continuing into their second year of full-time teaching in the form of a recommendation from their current principal.
