Undergraduate Course - Manufacturing Engineering

The Manufacturing Engineering virtual academic program is the first virtual academic program offered in Colombia. It aims at training enterprising professionals with knowledge in planning, managing and controlling manufacturing processes with the purpose of improving indicators of efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity in companies on a national and international basis.

The academic training areas of the Manufacturing Engineer are Materials and Manufacturing Processes, Production Systems Management, Quality Management, Industrial Safety, Environment, and Industrial Automation.

The program has an academic staff with broad academic and business experience, as well as with solid methodological training, thus making the learning process easier.

The curriculum is organized by thematic and problematic units, thus favoring flexibility, integration of theory and practice, and interdisciplinary work. It also allows students to be efficient in managing time and resources.

Similarly, students have technological tools to make their learning process easier. Such tools include the virtual classrooms technology platform, tutoring systems through videoconferences, access to virtual classrooms via mobile devices or cell phones, and simulated and remote labs, amongst other.

HOW DO WE DO IT?

  • Through a student-focused learning method aimed at developing the skills enough for learning to learn on an autonomous and independent basis.
  • Through self-regulatory learning processes guided by tutors, thus facilitating the development of competencies that allow students to apply and transfer the theoretical foundations learned in generating solutions to business problems of their operating environment.
  • Through a teaching, model focused on the development of competencies favoring the knowhow in actual business contexts.
  • With a credit-based academic system allowing students to effectively plan and organise their own learning process. Each study unit corresponds to eight, six, four or two academic credits, and one academic credit corresponds to 48 hours of academic activity during the academic term.
  • With a nine-semester program. Each semester is comprised of two ten-week cycles.
  • Laboratory practices will be conducted through simulated and remote labs, thus allowing students to strengthen their knowledge.
  • Through a teaching, model focused on the development of competencies favoring the knowhow in actual business contexts.
  • Through the use of Information and Communication Technologies for academic purposes, supported on Internet, in order to develop interaction and ongoing communication processes between students and tutors, thus promoting meaningful learning.
  • With an academic training system combining autonomous and independent work of students with tutoring sessions, academic work in virtual scenarios, and non-mandatory sessions, thus having a minimal interruption in the activities of students.
  • With the use of high-quality learning material that has been designed or adjusted to facilitate autonomous learning processes.
  • With the participation and support of qualified teachers having strong academic training and broad professional experience.
  • With a student-focused learning method aimed at developing the skills enough for learning to learn.
  • With a teaching model favoring the know-how in specific contexts.
  • By generating academic exchange opportunities with universities abroad –those which Universidad EAN has agreements with.

TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS

It is advisable for students to have constant access to a computer with internet access. The minimum requirements for having access to the virtual platform of Universidad EAN are as follows: a PC holding a Pentium processor, at least 1 GB RAM, internet access, and the Microsoft Windows XP operating system or an advanced version.

Universidad EAN uses campus platforms and virtual classrooms to facilitate not only the access to different services but also the academic interaction between students and tutors. Consequently, the campus becomes the university environment for the student, and the virtual classrooms become the classrooms.

It is necessary to install always the last version of Java programs, and browsers other than Internet Explorer.
