The 8.7 million organisms (animals, plants, microbes) living on the planet today offer a trove of evolved strategies that can inform a more sustainable design process. This course introduces you to the principles, theories, and practices of biomimicry. You examine several design case studies, exploring biomimicry through the study of nature's forms, functions, and ecosystems. You also learn how to integrate biomimicry into the design process in a range of fields and real-world applications.
Fundamentals of Biofabrication

Biofabrication and biomaterials are revolutionizing our material world. In this course, you explore the advances being made and possibilities offered across the supply chain and sectors such as medicine, fashion, sports, cosmetics, and architecture. You master the essential concepts of fabrication, from biosafety to nontoxic alternatives. Through a series of experiments, you develop the practical skills you need to work with biomaterials. You explore the science behind decomposition, biodegradability, life cycles, biomaterials, and fabrication, attaining a holistic understanding of these phenomena.
