Introduction

A dissertation on this current topic of academic studies should examine the fundamental issues in peace studies from various perspectives. What are the concepts of peace? Is peace a relative status? How do we understand violence, conflict, security, development, sustainability, democracy, equality and justice? What human, civil and political values are involved in peaceful and conflicting cultures? What are the practical means of building peaceful relations between peoples and countries? What are the key challenges and peaceful alternatives facing humanity now and in the future? There is no single answer to these questions, mainly because of the wide range of human experiences of peace and conflict and the complexity of interactions from local to global. A doctrinal research thesis in Peace Studies cannot disregard these topics.
