Introduction
UNIGIS Salzburg is part of the Department of Geoinformatics at the Paris Lodron University Salzburg. There, UNIGIS is responsible for the remote study programs UNIGIS MSc (CE) (2-year-program) and UNIGIS professional (1-year-program). As a founding member of the UNIGIS International Association, UNIGIS Salzburg has 30 years of experience in distance learning/teaching and counts 3000+ alumni. With qualified lecturers from research and industry, dedicated staff members, and individual support for students, UNIGIS offers high-quality education for Geoinformatics professional from different fields, from A – as in Archaeology, to Z – as in Zoology – because spatial data and their usage don’t have disciplinary boundaries.
Aims and Benefits
UNIGIS professional imparts practice-oriented knowledge of geographic information systems and is aimed at anyone who needs a quick but comprehensive insight into the methodology and use of Geoinformatics. The course is offered as distance learning course for people who are already working and leads to the certificate/the professional title "Academic Geoinformatician". The course duration is one year, the weekly workload approx. 12-15 hours, depending on module content and personal prior knowledge. Time flexibility and personal support guarantee the compatibility of studies with work and family. In order to counteract time bottlenecks due to special workloads at work, the duration of the course can be extended individually and without additional costs up to a total of 18 months. After completing your studies, you can also benefit from the international network of the alumni "Club UNIGIS", as well as selected benefits and discounts.

Curriculum
The study program “UNIGIS professional” is based on a modular structure consisting of:
- 7 core modules (6 ECTS per module)
- Elective Subjects (18 ECTS), and
- an introductory online workshop
The program amounts to 60 ECTS credits.

Elective Subjects
Electives advance and/or complement skills and knowledge acquired on UNIGIS core modules for specialized topics. A total of 18 ECTS are to be selected for Electives.
There are various ways to cover the Electives. Most importantly, UNIGIS offers a variety of optional modules that cover a broad range of conceptual and application-oriented topics in Geoinformatics. However, students can get credits for a range of other courses and achievements, successful participation in a Summer School, scientific publications, etc.
