PRESENTATION OF THE CLE MASTER
The Master of Chinese as a Foreign Language/Chinese as a Second Language in the School environment (CLE/CLS) prepares the students for a teaching career in institutional settings (schools, language centers, cultural services, and embassies). Internships represent a valuable reinforcement to the initial training received in the University of Artois.
This training is orientated towards the request of new audiences of learners in Asia, China, and France (companies, administrations, students’ mobility, and migrant population).
A full distant learning Master is available for French or foreign students who:
- Pursue professional development,
- Prepare the “CAPES” or the exam for schoolteachers,
- Are registered in another formation,
or any Master CLE’s students who live in Asia, Europe or Africa.
Two different websites, in French and in Chinese, will be available on the platform of the University of Artois.
Each lesson will be composed of two parts: one part will include videos with French and Chinese subtitles and the other will comprise texts, pictures, graphics, and bibliographies.
MASTER 1
1st SEMESTER
30 ECTS – Coefficient.1 (74 hours)

2nd SEMESTER

MASTER 2
3rd Semester

- UE 1: Training engineering and self-training — 12 ECTS Coef.2 (46 hours of lectures)
- UE 2: Education policies in Europe and China — 12 ECTS Coef.2 (38 hours of lectures)
- UE 3: Intercultural contexts of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (CLE) — 6 ECTS Coef.1 (18 hours of tutorial classes)
4th Semester
30 ECTS – Coefficient.1 (52 hours)
UF 721:
- UE 4: Training engineering and self-training — 5 ECTS Coef.1 (34 hours of lectures)
- UE 5: self-training — 5 ECTS Coef.1 (18 hours of tutorial classes) + a compulsory internship of a minimum of 3 months duration (20 ECTS — Coef.4).
INTERNSHIP AND PRODUCTION OF PAPERS
Master 1:
The compulsory internship in M1 must be carried out over a minimum of 4 weeks duration.
In addition to the regular remote knowledge exams and homework, the students will have to prepare a traineeship report after their internship period in a school environment.
Master 2:
The compulsory internship in M2 must be carried out over a minimum of 3 months duration in a school environment.
Concerning the Master 2 professional stream, the students will have to provide an internship paper on their didactic and professional activities during their internship. The Master 2 research stream, concentrates on a research paper on the themes; didactic of Chinese language or Chinese linguistics and literature.
ADMISSION MODALITIES
Master 1:
Materials for enrolment need reviewing.
- Graduates with a bachelor's degree in Chinese language studies.
- Graduates with a bachelor's degree in liberal arts with a Chinese proficiency level of or above B2/C1.
Master 2:
The register in Master 2 degree is acceptable for any student who completed the first year of CLE Master and subject to the approval of the Director of the Master.
In all other cases (resumption of studies for example) the application for registration will be examined.
ACQUIRED SKILLS
This two-years training provides students with linguistic and educational skills in the teaching of Chinese as a Foreign Language.
